Item Notes: Zimzum III 2006 pastel on paper
Definition of Zimzum from Brian Dunlop:
A perpetual process going on in God as (he) inhales and exhales. Try to imagine that, every time you hold your breath and then release I, you create and ruin another world. To sharply draw in the breath, Zimzum is an enabling act in which God paradoxically multiplies by contraction. A void akin to our own aching sense of emptiness and suffering. Zimzum achieved centrality in the sixteenth century master of Kabbalah, Isaac Luria.
